Naples – Home of Pizza!
Thanks to ARTURO ANASTASIO for this wonderful video taken from a flight over the Gulf of Naples. These are images of Naples, Capri, and Ischia Island. Music by: Marco Giardina (JARDUZ)
Naples (in Italian “Napoli”) has a rich tradition in cuisine, and music and has the world’s best collections of Greek and Roman antiquities. Pizza originally comes from Naples along with Lemoncello (a popular lemon liqueur). Naples also has one of the most important ports in Europe.
Museums
The Naples National Archaeological Museum has the most important artifacts of the Roman Empire, and of the Renaissance and Greek periods. Many antiques taken from Pompeii and Herculaneum are at this museum.
Museo di Capodimonte (which used to be a Bourbon Palace) has some of the most famous paintings from the 13th to the 18th century of Raphael, Titian, Caravaggio, El Greco, and Ribera.
Neapolitan Cuisine
Naples is the home of the pizza where pizzas are traditionally cooked in a wood-burning oven. The most well known ‘margherita’ pizza was named after Queen Margherita’s visit to this city. Naples is also famous for its sweet dishes, Neapolitan coffee and limoncello.

What To See
The best attractions in Naples are the Duomo (13th century Gothic), National Archaeological Museum of Naples, Piazza del Plebiscito, Via San Gregorio Armeno (nativity stores and workshops), Via Toledo (shopping area), Castel dell’Ovo (oldest castle in Naples), and the Capodimonte Museum and Park (has great collections of famous artworks of Caravaggio, Titian, Raphael etc.)
Surrounding Naples
Naples is surrounded by stunningly beautiful places such as the Amalfi Coast, and Sorrento. Islands near Naples that can be reached by ferries are Capri, Ischia and Procida. The ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum are near Naples also. These places were destroyed by the volcanic eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD.
